Pan Igbo group protecting the interests of the Igbo worldwide has re-affirmed their belief in one Nigeria as against the agitations for a break-up of the country being championed by the pro-Biafra secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The group disclosed this in Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday by its President-General Ambassador Mishak Nnanta who called for Nigerian President of Igbo extraction when President Buhari finishes his second term as the President of Nigeria.
He said in the interest of fairness of equity and justice the next President of Nigeria should come from the southeast as Buhari rounds off his second tenure.
Speaking further, Amb Mishak Nnanta, he said there is no denying the fact that the Igbo people believe in one Nigeria and the best way to give them a sense of belonging is to produce Buhari's successor.
Igbo, he said, are found in every part of the country, where they live, do their businesses and eke out a living and, therefore, could pass for true Nigerians, the reason why , he added, the group is working with Ohaneze Ndigbo to ensure Igbo live peacefully wherever they chose to reside, as well as get their dues in the country calling attention to trying days, when Igbo were given quit notice to leave the North on October 1, 2017.
He said the group was left with no option but to embark on a tour of the northern region which afforded them the opportunity to speak with the leaders of the region where they presented their case.
What the tour afforded them the chance to know was that the elites in the region realize the importance of the Igbos in Nigeria and never supported the eviction order at the period under sad review.
In his words: “Today, we are moving around the country, to ensure that there is unity and peace, with the demand that Ndigbo are given their rightful position in the country.”
“We believe that Igbo are the first son of Nigeria and need not go anywhere. We are in a great country where people like the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and others brought their ideas together to build and sustain.
''So, there is no need for separation. What we are saying is that Igbo man should ascend the office of the president after Buhari,” Nanta said.
